40 Days for Life: Week 4

L1220922God’s light cannot be suppressed no matter how great the darkness

There is about one week left in the 40 Days for Life

If you believe there’s no greater power than prayer and if you feel in your heart that those who stand in public witness for the unborn are doing a courageous and important thing,
perhaps that’s a sign that you should be one of them.

Please see if you can find an hour to come this last week
and be part of the 40 Days for Life.  Continue reading

40 Days for Life: Week 2

L1220918Your prayers are really needed today.
“For eight years we have stood on this ground because of one reason only,”
said Eileen Peterson, 40 Days coordinator in Spring Valley.
“God has sent us!
Every hour, every day, the people of God are fasting and praying.”

And Eileen is convinced the prayers are being heard and answered.
“We know through the New York state statistics that abortions in Rockland County
have seriously dropped.”

Please sign up now to take part in the 40 Days for Life, a true matter of Life and death.

Rockland Life Chain Attendance Tops 400

L1220886The welcome influx of enthusiastic Christians from churches across all of Rockland County made Sunday’s Life Chain in Nanuet the biggest in years.

Under bright, sunny skies, from 2 to 3:30 pm, over 400 participants stood up for Life by forming a “chain” that stretched along Route 59 from the west end of the Shops at Nanuet  nearly down to the intersection with College Rd., and north and south along Middletown  Rd.

L1220874Holding signs that read “Abortion Kills Children” and “Jesus Saves and Heals,”  and other appeals to respect the life of the unborn, veteran Life Chain participants and the many newcomers proclaimed their message to the thousands who passed by in cars during the hour and a half they stood witness.

Among those present were members of the Prolife Club of Albertus Magnus High School in Bardonia, Beth Am Messiah in New City, CrossLife Church in Thiells, Faith Assembly of God in Chestnut Ridge, the Gracepoint Gospel Fellowship in New City, the Living Hope Fellowship in Tompkins Cove, the New Hope Christian Church in Monsey, St. Augustine’s Church in New City and many other Catholic churches, the Salvation Army from West Nyack, the Savior Community Church in New City,  the Silver Springs Vineyard Church in Nyack, the Sisters of Charity from St. Agatha’s Home in Nanuet, and the Sisters of Life.

Chris Bell, the co-founder and president of Good Counsel Homes, which helps homeless pregnant women, also visited the Life Chain. He had been speaking at the masses at St. Anthony’s Church in Nanuet for Respect Life Sunday.

Many of the first-timers learned of the Life Chain through Deacon Ed Ilarraza of Gracepoint Gospel Fellowship. Ilarraza and Eileen Peterson were organizers of the Life Chain.

“Brother Ed spread the word,” said Onix Sosa of CrossLife Church in Thiells. “We credit him with us being here.”

States Can Defund Planned Parenthood, Says House

The U.S. House of Representatives passed an amendment to the Medicaid law Tuesday to give  states the freedom to exclude abortion providers from Medicaid. The vote was 236 to 193.

This will help the five states that have voted to defund Planned Parenthood, but who are receiving pushback from the Obama administration which claims the states don’t have the authority to revoke Medicaid taxpayer funding. The states are Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Hampshire, and Utah.

Our representative Nita Lowey voted against this prolife bill.

You can read more about this bill, The Women’s Health and Safety Act (HR 3495), here.

Lowey Champions Planned Parenthood at Rally

Screen Shot 2015-09-28 at 4.00.23 PMA rally in support of Planned Parenthood was held in White Plains Sunday. Among the attendees were several local lawmakers and Nita Lowey, who represents Rockland and parts of Westchester counties in the House of Representatives.

Two weeks ago, Lowey voted against defunding PP and also against a bill to protect infants who survive abortions. These two measures passed the House.

Among the pro-life protestors who lined the streets during the rally was Judith Anderson of the Hudson Valley Coalition for Life who said the Planned Parenthood videos which sparked the current defunding debate only “confirm what we know and have known about Planned Parenthood for 40 years.”

You can watch the News 12 Hudson Valley coverage here.

Planned Parenthood Defunding Blocked in Senate

By a vote of 52-47, the Senate blocked legislation yesterday that would have kept the government running through Dec. 11. The bill contained a provision to strip Planned Parenthood of government funding for a year while its practices are being investigated.

New York senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand voted to block the bill.

Following the defeat, Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky), the Senate Majority leader, filed a new bill to fund federal agencies. This bill does not contain the Planned Parenthood defunding measure. The vote on this bill could come Monday.

At the moment the Republicans are divided as to how to proceed. “We can win if we take the case to the American people,” Sen. Ted Cruz wrote in an op-ed published Wednesday in Politico. “Show the Planned Parenthood videos. Stand united. If Obama follows through on his threat to veto funding for the federal government, we should force him to defend that radical position.”

Bill to Protect Babies 20 Weeks and Older Blocked in Senate

votesagainsst3reWith 60 votes needed to proceed, the vote on the Pain-Capable Unborn Children Protection Act was 52-42. That means the bill will not advance even though a majority of the Senate voted FOR the bill.

Unfortunately, it was a group of pro-abortion Democrats who couldn’t see their way to recognizing what all but seven countries in the world have acknowledged: that it is morally wrong to inflict pain on an innocent, vulnerable human being.

And take a look at the list that accompanies this story. Yep, there are the names of our two senators from New York, Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand — among the 42 senators who voted against protecting babies from excruciating abortions.

40 Days for Life Begins Wednesday, Sept. 23

20131012_124257 securedownload2 “Now we need to pray for courage — and a miracle.”

This was the response of Eileen Peter, one of the coordinators of the Rockland 40 Days for Life campaign, to the tumultuous summer that saw outcry of horror against the gruesome Planned Parenthood abortion videos.

And she’s right.

If we’re beside ourselves, outraged and disgusted by the barbaric videos, our first reaction needs to be prayer. And the second reaction should be to find the closest 40 Days for Life Campaign and sign up to pray where Planned Parenthood is. They are able to sell baby body parts because they have the parts to sell in the first place.

You can stop that through prayer and peaceful presence. You can be that witness.  And you can be on the right side of history. It doesn’t require much – just overcoming a little initial fear.  Continue reading
