DISTRICT 99

Where it is: Includes Stony Point and part of Orange County

Who’s running: James G. Skoufis (D) vs. Richard M. Cocchiara (R)

Where they stand:

James Skoufis, the incumbent, voted for the Women’s Equality Act, including the 10th point (abortion expansion) in 2013 and 2014.

He also sponsored and voted for the so-called “Boss Bill” (A8769-2013), legislation that would require a religious employer to provide health insurance coverage of birth control and abortifacient drugs because not doing so would be a form of discrimination against women.

Richard Cocchiara provided the following statement to Rockland RTL: I cannot support point #10 of the Women’s Equality Act which would allow for partial birth abortion. As a father and husband, I firmly believe in women’s equality in the workforce but NOT partial birth abortion and as a result will not consider supporting the Women’s Equality Act until point #10 is removed.
