There’s another vote to defund Planned Parenthood coming up this Friday (Oct. 23).
Please use the link here to send an email message directly to your representative in the House, urging him or her to vote FOR HR 3762. The bill would also repeal certain provisions of Obamacare.
The House had already approved a bill to defund PP last month (241-187), but the effort was killed by a filibuster in the Senate. Even though more senators voted FOR this measure (52-47), it did not meet the 60-vote majority required to stop the filibuster.
Now a second-go-round on legislation to defund Planned Parenthood is in the works.
It uses a budget reconciliation process. The genius of this approach is that senators cannot filibuster to block the bill. They have to allow a vote. And that means the bill can be passed by a majority of senators — 51 votes.
But first, the bill has to pass the House.
FOR THOSE OF YOU IN ROCKLAND COUNTY: Our representative in the House is Nita Lowey. Now, we know Ms. Lowey is a champion of Planned Parenthood, who will vote against this bill. We’re tempted to throw up our hands and say, so what’s the point?
The point is this — This is the American way. We have to stand up and tell our representatives in Congress what we believe is best for our nation — whether they listen to us or not. We cannot just fold, and go away.
You can believe Planned Parenthood and their supporters are making their voices heard loud and clear.
