40 DAYS FOR LIFE: Week 1 — Why 40 Days?

40 Days for Life is a national effort and community-based campaign to draw attention to the evil of abortion and its devastating effects on women and men.

Why 40 Days? In the Bible, God used 40-day periods to transform individuals, communities … and the entire world. From Noah in the flood to the disciples after Christ’s resurrection, it’s clear that God sees the transformative value of His people accepting and meeting a 40-day challenge.

And it is a true challenge. In some of these photos you’ll see volunteers praying in the rain (talk about Noah’s Flood), but that’s how important the message is.

Please join us the prayer site on Perlman Drive in Spring Valley at any time from 9 am to 5 pm. If you can make a commitment of one hour per week, please email rachelminister@aol.com or call 845-492-6709.

DNC Flaunts Abortion — and Gets the Willies over Churches’ Welcome

The Democratic National Committee banned dozens of Charlotte churches from distributing gift baskets to delegates because the congregations hold values that are contrary to the party platform, according to local religious leaders.

The baskets contained Carolina praline candy and a letter welcoming the delegates to the city and offering assistance in transportation, childcare, or spiritual matters. Heaven forbid there might be a prolife sentiment in there among the goodies.  Read on.

Makeover at Good Counsel

It was a laundry and general storage area in the basement of the Spring Valley Good Counsel Home.

But now that Victoria-Elizabeth Negron and the Ridgewood Knights of Columbus have worked their magic, it’s  a neat and functional study space — complete with computers, new office furniture, shelving, and proper lighting — where the moms of Good Counsel can find a quiet, comfortable, and encouraging place to study and work with tutors and mentors to improve their reading and computer skills.

It all started last November when Bob Reilly, co-chair of the Spring Valley Good Counsel Home leadership team and Past Grand Knight of the Ridgewood (NJ) Council of the Knights of Columbus, was contacted by his fellow Knight, Dan Negron.  Continue reading
