The seats are $30 for adult; $15 for child. Clergy ride free, but you still must make a reservation so we know you’re coming.

In Memoriam: Bonnie Walsh

BONNIE WALSH

April 23, 1947 – August 10, 2015

facebook-pix-bonnieThe Rockland prolife community lost one of its greats this past summer, Bonnie Walsh, of Haverstraw, who passed away Aug. 10.

Bonnie was a nurse and community leader, whose good works encompassed the full spectrum of human life.

She was a strong supporter of the Good Counsel Home (for homeless moms and babies) in Spring Valley and was honored for her work in 2003. She also received an award in 2011 from the Catholic Community Services of Rockland for her caring for those who needed assistance in our community. She worked tirelessly to hold political leaders accountable and to make Rockland a better place to live.  Continue reading

In Memoriam — Don Mellon

DONALD E. MELLON

March 14, 1925 – June 10, 2015

Don Mellon“I didn’t know whether he was a friend or foe,” long-time Pearl River resident Terry Anselmi said, recalling the first time she met the mysterious, helmeted biker in the black leather jacket who pulled up on his Harley to where a group of prolifers were protesting near an abortion clinic on Route 59 in Tallman many years ago.

He turned out to be a friend — great friend – to many of us and to the prolife movement here in Rockland County. His name was Don Mellon.

Don was a soft-spoken, gentle man with a big heart – a loving husband to his beloved wife, Joan, a generous, devoted family member, a devout Catholic, a college professor and author who would “gladly learn and gladly teach,” and an ardent, committed pro-lifer with a love for life. Continue reading

40 Days for Life: Week 5

PB020113Stand for Life and Make a Difference

Alive Today

Over 650 babies were saved as parents who were considering abortion stopped to talk with volunteers praying at our nation’s abortion clinics and Planned Parenthood offices during this autumn’s 40 Days for Life. Two of these babies were from Rockland.

The vigil of prayer, fasting, and raising awareness of the abortion issue ended on Nov. 1. Thirty-one participants gathered in Rockland for a closing ceremony.  Continue reading

House Votes to Defund Planned Parenthood for One Year

By a vote of 240-189 yesterday, the House of Representatives passed a bill to defund Planned Parenthood for one year (HR 3726). The legislation also repealed key provisions of Obamacare — the individual and employer mandates, the “Cadillac” tax, and the medical device tax.

Our representative, Nita Lowey, voted against the bill.

Now the actions turns to the Senate where three key Republicans — Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and Mike Lee (R-Utah) are threatening to vote against the measure  because it does not fully repeal Obamacare.

Action Alert: Vote Coming Friday to Cut $400 Million from Planned Parenthood

Take_Action_5This will only take a minute.

There’s another vote to defund Planned Parenthood coming up this Friday (Oct. 23).

Please use the link here to send an email message directly to your representative in the House, urging him or her to vote FOR HR 3762. The bill would also repeal certain provisions of Obamacare.

The House had already approved a bill to defund PP last month (241-187), but  the effort was killed by a filibuster in the Senate. Even though more senators voted FOR this measure (52-47), it did not meet the 60-vote majority required to stop the filibuster.  Continue reading

40 Days for Life: Week 4

L1220922God’s light cannot be suppressed no matter how great the darkness

There is about one week left in the 40 Days for Life

If you believe there’s no greater power than prayer and if you feel in your heart that those who stand in public witness for the unborn are doing a courageous and important thing,
perhaps that’s a sign that you should be one of them.

Please see if you can find an hour to come this last week
and be part of the 40 Days for Life.  Continue reading

40 Days for Life: Week 2

L1220918Your prayers are really needed today.
“For eight years we have stood on this ground because of one reason only,”
said Eileen Peterson, 40 Days coordinator in Spring Valley.
“God has sent us!
Every hour, every day, the people of God are fasting and praying.”

And Eileen is convinced the prayers are being heard and answered.
“We know through the New York state statistics that abortions in Rockland County
have seriously dropped.”

Please sign up now to take part in the 40 Days for Life, a true matter of Life and death.

This week brought rain and gusty wind for days. But the 40 Days volunteers continued their vigil.

The hours are from 9 am until 6 pm on Perlman Drive, Spring Valley, and from 6 pm until 9 as at the Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church in Garnerville. The Perlman Drive prayer site is on public property, about 50 yards from the Spring Valley Planned Parenthood office, which is in a mall nearby.

Now We Need to Pray for Courage — and a Miracle!
