We March On! March for Life 2016

securedownload74What brings them?  Those hundreds of thousands who travel to the March for Life in Washington, D.C., each January.

It’s what you do when you believe in something that’s just so important that your commitment reaches  down to the very roots of your soul. When you know that what you hold most dear is being threatened, and even if nobody stands up but you, you have to do it. When your faith, your belief in what our country is supposed to stand for, and your concern for those who are suffering won’t let you turn away.

b7-bmmxigaaymdr-largeWhen you know you have to do your part to defend the Right for Life, come to the March.

There you’ll see your single effort multiplied many thousand times over, your strength will reinforced by the passion of marchers of every age, religion, race, and ethnic background from every state of the union. And your heart will be uplifted and renewed by what you’ll be a part of there.

The March for Life is held each on January 22, the day commemorating the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision which legalized abortion on demand in 1973. Continue reading

The “Restoring America’s Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act” also dismantled several provisions of Obamacare. All senatorial presidential contenders, Marco Rubio (Fla.), Rand Paul (Ky.). Lyndsey Graham (S.C.) and Ted Cruz (Texas) voted for passage of the bill.

The two senators for New York, democrats Kirsten Gillibrand and Chuck Schumer, voted against the bill.

BONNIE WALSH

April 23, 1947 – August 10, 2015

facebook-pix-bonnieThe Rockland prolife community lost one of its greats this past summer, Bonnie Walsh, of Haverstraw, who passed away Aug. 10.

Bonnie was a nurse and community leader, whose good works encompassed the full spectrum of human life.

She was a strong supporter of the Good Counsel Home (for homeless moms and babies) in Spring Valley and was honored for her work in 2003. She also received an award in 2011 from the Catholic Community Services of Rockland for her caring for those who needed assistance in our community. In Memoriam — Don Mellon

DONALD E. MELLON

March 14, 1925 – June 10, 2015

Don Mellon“I didn’t know whether he was a friend or foe,” long-time Pearl River resident Terry Anselmi said, recalling the first time she met the mysterious, helmeted biker in the black leather jacket who pulled up on his Harley to where a group of prolifers were protesting near an abortion clinic on Route 59 in Tallman many years ago.

He turned out to be a friend — great friend – to many of us and to the prolife movement here in Rockland County. His name was Don Mellon.

Don was a soft-spoken, gentle man with a big heart – a loving husband to his beloved wife, Joan, a generous, devoted family member, a devout Catholic, a college professor and author who would “gladly learn and gladly teach,” and an ardent, committed pro-lifer with a love for life. Continue reading

House Votes to Defund Planned Parenthood for One Year

By a vote of 240-189 yesterday, the House of Representatives passed a bill to defund Planned Parenthood for one year (HR 3726). The legislation also repealed key provisions of Obamacare — the individual and employer mandates, the “Cadillac” tax, and the medical device tax.

Our representative, Nita Lowey, voted against the bill.

Now the actions turns to the Senate where three key Republicans — Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and Mike Lee (R-Utah) are threatening to vote against the measure  because it does not fully repeal Obamacare.

Action Alert: Vote Coming Friday to Cut $400 Million from Planned Parenthood

Take_Action_5This will only take a minute.

There’s another vote to defund Planned Parenthood coming up this Friday (Oct. 23).

Please use the link here to send an email message directly to your representative in the House, urging him or her to vote FOR HR 3762. The bill would also repeal certain provisions of Obamacare.

The House had already approved a bill to defund PP last month (241-187), but  the effort was killed by a filibuster in the Senate. Even though more senators voted FOR this measure (52-47), it did not meet the 60-vote majority required to stop the filibuster.  Continue reading
