Come to the March for Life — Jan. 22 [updated]

Untitled-design-7The March for Life in Washington, D.C., began as a small demonstration on Jan. 22, 1974, the first anniverary of the now-infamous Supreme Court decision of Roe v.Wade, and rapidly grew to be the largest prolife event in the world!

This peaceful demonstration is a witness to the truth concerning the greatest human rights violation of our time, legalized abortion on demand.

This year, the theme of the March for Life is Every Life Is a Gift. It will focus on the right to be born of children diagnosed with fetal abnormalities like Down Syndrome, Trisomy 13, or spina bifida, for whom the abortion rate can be as high as 90 percent.

You may know such a child personally or have heard stories of how special children with special needs have had a rich, purposeful life even in the face of the many challenges and have brought joy and happiness to their families.

Come march with your fellow Rocklanders this year to bear witness again that every child is born with the God-given right to life. Continue reading

Does God Know?

Even in this holy season, the world can seem shrouded in darkness and turmoil. To those who are dealing with the upheaval of an unexpected pregnancy and to all who question whether God understands what we’re going through, guest blogger Sean Miller offers this Christmas meditation.

Does God Know?

Year after year, as we gaze on the nativity scene at Christmas time, it fills us with joy and warmth.

nativityWe imagine how it must have been – the silent, holy night, the newborn King asleep in heavenly peace in the arms of his beautiful Mother. But is that the way it really was?

I don’t think so. From what Scripture tells us, for Mary and Joseph the time surrounding the birth of their Son was tumultuous and filled with confusion, uncertainty, and danger. Continue reading

‘It’s A Wonderful Life’

It’s not how successful we are in our careers, the amount of cash we accumulate in our bank accounts, or how popular we are. What matters is how much we love and are loved, says guest blogger Sean Miller. And that’s the theme of that beloved Christmas classic, “It’s A Wonderful Life.”

It’s A Wonderful Life

The movie “It’s a Wonderful Life” is shown on TV every year, right around Christmas time.

The main character, George Bailey, played by Jimmy Stewart, is down on his luck, filled with despair, and on the verge of committing suicide. Bitterly, he tells his “guardian angel” he wishes he’d never been born.

The angel decides to grant him his wish. And he shows George what the world would have been like without him, if he never existed.

250px-It's_A_Wonderful_LifeAnd through the alternate world the angel presents, George comes to realize how much he has impacted others by the love he has shown them – and how the lives of his loved ones, friends, and entire community would have been so sadly diminished if he hadn’t been there. Garth Brooks Sings “Mom”

You’ve got to listen to this — a prolife ballad from beginning to end. A baby about to be born is scared and wonders if it wouldn’t be a bad idea to just stay with God. But God tells him there’s “somebody down there waiting for you.”  And watch the audience reactions!
