Albertus Senior in State Competition

On May 7, Colleen Galvin, a senior at Albertus Magnus High School, delivered her pro-life address at the College of St. Rose in Albany in the New York State Right to Life Oratory Contest.

To advance to that level, Colleen first had to qualify as the representative of Rockland County Right to Life in the first county-level speaking contest sponsored by the organization as part of the national competition. Colleen presented her qualifying speech at St. Augustine’s Church in New City on April 12. Continue reading →

St. Patrick’s Day — On the March

At the 49th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, sponsored by the men and women of the Rockland County Ancient Order of Hiberians, on March 20, about 20 pro-lifers joined to form a unit under the banner of the “Respect Life” organization. The AOH,  known for its pro-life activities, awarded the group its “Good Citizen” trophy, donated by the Luigi O’Grady Deli in Pearl River. Continue reading →

March for Life — January 2011

At 6 am, on Jan. 24, the coldest morning of the winter (7 degrees), prolife Rocklanders braved the frigid temperatures to set out for Washington, DC, for the 38th annual March for Life.

The day fortunately offered one of the brief windows of good weather between the snowstorms that have been slamming the county since Christmas.

Our three buses arrived at the National Mall around 11 am, and joined the more than 200,000 marchers from across the country, who came to our nation’s capital to call for an end to the tragedy of abortion on demand. Continue reading →

Albertus Magnus 4 Life

This year Washington’s “March for Life” included 52 Albertus students and 3 faculty members (Mr. Carl Locatelli, Deacon John Crapanzano and Mrs. Parisi). These students made a great sacrifice in giving over 15 hours of their day during midterm exam week. One of the most notable changes evident in the March is the increase of younger faces. Tom & Inez Niblo, Past Chairs of Rockland RTL

Tom Niblo, former chairman of the Rockland Right to Life Committee, passed away on Sept. 14, 2010, at the age of 81. Tom was a member of the organization’s board of directors at the time of his death

Although Tom served Right to Life in many capacities for decades, his passion was education and his mission was to spread the word.

When the legalization of abortion steamrolled over the laws and values that upheld the sanctity of human life in the early 1970s, information about the issue – its moral, medical, legal, and sociological ramifications – was not that easily come by.

In those days, Tom found his weapons to confront the assault on the defenseless: prayer (he was a devout Roman Catholic) and the power of knowledge. Continue reading →

Life Chain in Nanuet — October 2009

Hundreds of pro-lifers from Rockland County and the surrounding area came together at the intersections of Rte. 59 and Middletown Rd. in Nanuet on Sunday, Oct. 4, for the 17th annual Life Chain.

The Life Chain is a nationwide, peaceful, public assembly of pro-life Americans praying for our nation and for an end to abortion.

It is usually held on the first Sunday in October. Among the other cites throughout the U.S. where Life Chains were held this year were nearby White Plains, Yonkers, Bronx, Cortland, Scarsdale, Hastings-on-Hudson, Mt. Kisco, Middletown, Warwick, and Poughkeepsie.
