40 Days for Life Begins Again on Feb. 18

securedownload-4240 Days for Life is 40 consecutive days of 24/7 prayer, fasting, and peaceful public vigil outside a local abortion clinic or Planned Parenthood office. In Rockland, the site is Perlman Drive in Spring Valley, on public property, outside the mall where Planned is. The vigil begins on Feb. 18 at 3 p.m., and ends of March 29.

The goal is to turn hearts and minds, with God’s help, toward an awareness that all life is a sacred gift, and thus bring an end to abortion.

This mobilization of people of all faiths takes place twice a year across America and  27 countries worldwide. Over half a million people have participated, and over 10,000 babies, who might have been aborted, were saved.

Please give some thought to being part of this campaign this time. If you have been away, please come back. We need you. And, more importantly, the babies need you.

You’re asked to sign up for 1 hour a week, any time between 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., to pray on Perlman Drive. You may pray in any way you choose. If you are only available in the evening, the 40 Days continues overnight from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. in the Perpetual Adoration Chapel or St. Gregory Barbarigo Church in Garnerville.

Check out some of the links below, which will give you an idea of what the 40 Days in Rockland is like.

An estimated 200,000 defenders of life traveled to Washington, D.C., on Thursday, Jan. 22., to mark the 42nd anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision, which legalized abortion in America in 1973.

Among the thousands of men, women, teenagers, and children who marched together down Constitution Avenue, past the Capitol to the Supreme Court, were many from the Rockland prolife community, including those who came on two buses chartered by the Rockland Right to Life Committee.

For those, the day began before dawn. Msgr. Joseph Giandurco, pastor of Sacred Heart Church in Suffern, greeted the marchers as they boarded the bus at the church parking lot at 5 a.m.

NYS Senate Passes Women’s Equality Agenda — WITHOUT Abortion Expansion

Back in session, the New York State Senate yesterday unanimously (62-0) passed all the planks of the Women’s Equalty Act (WEA) except for one — the controversial abortion expansion bill.

These same measures — including pay equality, curtailing pregnancy discrimination in the workplace, aid for victims of domestic violence, and strengthening laws against sex trafficking — passed the Senate last spring, but never became law because the House refused to consider them without also voting on the abortion legislation.

Now, again, the WEA will return to the House, where pro-abortion forces are pressuring the legislators not to vote on the bills passed by the Senate, but to hold out for the full package containing those bills plus the abortion expansion “10th point.”

It will be interesting to see what Governor Cuomo, who strongly supported the full WEA agenda in his State of the Union address last year, will say in his speech next week.

Senate Majority Leader and Coalition Co-Leader Dean Skelos (R) said in a statement supporting the passage of the non-abortion-related measures: “It is a new year and time to put progress over politics by passing effective measures that provide women with the protections they need and the opportunities they deserve.

Abortions Down Dramatically in Rockland

From the 40 Days for Life Organizers:  “Since 1997 in which Rockland County had 783 abortions, there has been a steady decline  — with the exception of two years with a slight increase  — and the abortion rate has fallen dramatically!

Last recorded figure was for 2012, and the total number of abortions for Rockland were 351.

One is too many and we have much more work to do, but we are witnessing the direct result of Prayer Power.”

Plans are underway for the 16th 40 Days for Life in Rockland. It will begin on February 18 (Ash Wednesday) and end on March 29 (Palm Sunday).
