40 DAYS FOR LIFE UPDATE: Week 4

Only two weeks left in the 40 Days for Life. If you’ve been thinking about being part of this, why not stop by?

You’ll find the volunteers are ordinary people like yourself — all united by the need to do something to stop abortion and save lives. Here’s what we hope to accomplish by gathering on Perlman Drive near the Spring Valley Planned Parenthood office.

We stand there in the hope that a woman coming to Planned Parenthood to arrange for an abortion will hesitate — and stop and think — and choose life for her unborn child.

We stand there so the people will know that there are many like us who have not caved in to the abortion mentality — who  will fight to make sure America will always be a place where life is an unalienable right.

And, most importantly, we stand there to pray, each in his or her own way, that God’s truth — that we are all made in His image and likeness, loved and valued beyond measure — will be made manifest, and that He will heal all who have been hurt in any way by abortion.

We’d love to have you with us.  Please stop by or call 492-6709.

Bonnie Walsh Receives Community Services Award

On Thursday, Oct. 13, at the Fourth Annual Catholic Community Services of Rockland (CCSR) Dinner at the Casa Mia Manor House in Blauvelt, Bonnie Walsh, an outstanding pro-life activist, was awarded the Community Services award for her numerous achievements, caring, and concern for those needing assistance in our community.

Monsignor Edward Weber, Regional Vicar, and Chairman of the CCSR Board and Pastor of St. Francis of Assisi parish, before a dinner audience of 300 supporters of Catholic Community Services, presented the very prestigious award to Bonnie.

Bonnie was most humble in her grateful acceptance of the award. She related how her years of nursing and experience as Assistant Director of United Hospice of Rockland provided a perfect environment for her to reach out and complement the mission of CCSR. Numerous accolades of Bonnie’s activities were also noted by those in attendance including her husband, Gerry, her family, and many, many friends who wanted to share this special night with a very special person.

40 DAYS FOR LIFE UPDATE: Week 1

"The rain began to intensify as we prayed . . ."

The 40 Days for Life is a 24/7 national prayer vigil to end abortion. In Rockland, it is being held from Sept. 28 through Nov. 6 on Perlman Drive in Spring Valley, near the Planned Parenthood office. In the evening, the vigil moves inside to the chapel of St. Gregory Barbarigo Church in Garnerville and continues through the night until the next morning, when it resumes again at 9 am in Spring Valley. Pro-Life Rocklanders Unite in Life Chain

Albertus Magnus High School students on Route 59 at the Life Chain.

The 19th annual Rockland Life Chain was held on Respect Life Sunday, Oct. 2, at the intersection of Route 59 and Middletown Rd. in Nanuet.

This year the Life Chain was held in memory of Barbara (Betty) Braun, who spoke out bravely and eloquently for the unborn for decades. She was one of the founding members and president of the Rockland County  Catholic Coalition. Betty passed away last spring, and everyone is invited to her memorial mass on Oct. 7 at St. Francis Church in West Nyack at 7 pm. Continue reading

Life Chain — A Prayer for Life

On Oct. 2, Respect Life Sunday, the 19th annual Life Chain will be held at the intersection of Route 59 and Middletown Road in Nanuet — the crossroads of Rockland County — from 2 pm to 3:30 pm.

This peaceful, prayerful event is very simple. People of all ages and faiths stand together (some sit) and pray in their own way that hearts will change, bringing an end to abortion in our land. Each person holds a pro-life sign. You can get one there or bring your own.

Thousands of cars pass through this intersection during the Life Chain. There is no better way for the pro-life community of Rockland to remind our fellow citizens that abortion takes the lives of thousands of our unborn brothers and sisters every day and that “The Natural Choice is LIfe!”

If this is important to you, please find a way to spend some time at the Life Chain. Remember, the English philosopher Edmund Burke said, “All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.” Bring your children. Seeing their parents stand up for what they believe in will be a lesson they’ll remember all their lives.

Join in solidarity in the prayer for life — and believe that with God, all things are possible. We hope to see you there Sunday, Oct. 2.

40 Days for Life — Sept. 28 to Nov. 6

The 40 Days for Life will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 3 pm at the prayer site on Perlman Drive near the Spring Valley Planned Parenthood office.  The vigil of prayer, fasting, and peaceful activism will continue around the clock, rain or shine, for 40 days (and in the evening and throughout the night at the Eucharistic Chapel of St. Gregory Barbarigo on Cinder Road in Garnerville), ending on Nov. 6.

Rockland participants in this nationwide campaign of prayer to end abortion give one hour of their time a week for the next 40 days to come to the Planned Parenthood site to stand and pray.

Why Planned Parenthood?

Although surgical abortions are not done at the Planned Parenthood Spring Valley facility, the parent organization’s own 2009 fact sheet admits to its having performed over 300,000 abortions that year. And although PP says these abortions amount to 3 percent of the services it provides, it has been estimated that abortion nevertheless accounts for more than 34% of PP’s income.

Vigil participants gather on Perlman Drive (across the road from the Spring Valley Marketplace)  to pray that women considering abortions will have a change of heart,  to ask for God’s help and guidance was they work to build a true culture of life, and to bring the attention of community of Rockland to Planned Parenthood as a nationwide abortion provider.

Rockland Right to Life  website will follow the progress of the vigil volunteers throughout the 40 days of this autumn’s campaign.
